RAINSVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY POLICIES
Obtaining a library card: You may obtain a card from the Rainsville Public Library if you live in Jackson or Dekalb counties and have identification showing your current address. Other counties require a $20 deposit which will be returned if account is closed in good standing. There will be no charge for the first card and a $2 charge for any additional cards. The library cards will be made and ready to pick up at the library. We do not mail cards. Children must be 6 yrs. old or older to obtain a library card. Children under 6 yrs. old are allowed to check out using a parent's card. Patron must present personal library card in order to check out materials.
Borrowing Materials:
All books are checked out for 2 weeks unless they are on a waiting list; then they are checked out for 7 days. No renewals on books or audios on waiting list. Audios are also checked out for 2 weeks. Videos are checked out for 7 days.
Fines:
Late fines are .10 a day on books and audios. We give one day grace period with no charge. Videos have a $1.00 a day late fee (no grace period). For continued use of library service payment options are available for fees owed. Patrons are responsible for lost or damaged materials.
Materials reserved: Reserved material can only be checked out for 7 days and renewed only if no one is on the waiting list for the material. Materials will be held for 2 days following telephone notification. If not picked up by closing of the 2nd day, material will be given to the next patron on list.
Interlibrary loans:
Materials can be borrowed from other libraries. There will be a $2 per item charge for postage.
Limitations for check-out:
5 Adult materials and 10 children's materials at a time. Adult materials include adult books, audiobooks, and movies. Only 2 videos per patron or if multiple cards are used a maximum of 4 per family. Only 3 audios checked out per patron at a time; young adult books limit
is 5. There is a limit of 20 total items checked out per family. After initial checkout, items may be renewed up to 3 times. After last renewal, materials must be brought back.
Computer use: No appointments (first come, first served). Present library card and sign usage book. Time allotment: one hour intervals per patron, per day for Internet usage. Copies are .15 for black and white, color is $1 according to amount of color. Please be sure you want copies when you print them as charges will apply. Patrons cannot leave children unattended in the library while using the Internet.

8 yrs. old and under must have parent sitting with child to use computer. 9-13 yrs. old must have a parent present. Parents, please do not leave children unattended in the library as the library staff is not responsible for the child.
Please refrain from use of sounds and visuals which might be disruptive to others.
Users may not attempt in any way to alter, damage, abuse, or sabotage computer equipment or software, alter configurations, or install any software or download. Personal disks (USB, etc) may be used in library computers but please allow a librarian to scan for viruses before using.
In view of the library's status as a public facility, users are asked to refrain from viewing text or graphics that may be offensive to others.
Because these are public terminals, we cannot guarantee the confidentiality of transactions or communications; private communications are conducted at your own risk.
Failure to comply with these policies will result in loss of library and computer privileges.
